2011 Vista Ridge Winterguard

The Vista Ridge Winterguard is the 2011 Texas Color Guard Circuit Scholastic Regional A Red Division Silver Medalist!

What an incredible Season!  The 2011 Vista Ridge Winterguard is truly the Little Colorguard That Could, chug-chug-chugging up the hill to the top.  Inexperience abounded:  only four members had marched more than one year of colorguard, five members had completed one semester (marching band season), and the rest had never picked up a flag before joining in November!  Only four Members out of the 16 that started the season had experienced Winterguard Season before, so not only was the group inexperienced in equipment technique, but most of the Guard had little idea how the whole Winterguard activity worked at all.

To start from such humble beginnings and then soar so highly is truly a Cinderella story (had Cinderella worked has hard as our Members did!), and one that Kat and I are extremely proud to be a part of.

The Members performed “A Meditation on Orange” with an incredible grace and poise, and the group synergy was there for the entire audience to see.  For me, the greatest part was still to come, when, once off the floor, it was apparent how ecstatic the Members were about their performance.  They knew they had knocked it out of the park that afternoon.  I am so glad the Guard has experienced that euphoric feeling of a show extremely-well-done!  The absolutely best part of the season for me was our “debrief” afterwards – when we were experiencing that euphoria together!

For the Guard to be rewarded for that awesome performance was the icing on the cake.  As you know, they were seeded 4th in their round going in.  Speaking for the Members, it was very exciting to not be announced in 4th place (which meant we were 3rd, which meant the Members were medalists!) – oh but wait!  We weren’t announced in 3rd, either!  What an exciting Retreat.

Congratulations, Winterguard!  And what a great point from which to move forward.

This Saturday, 27 March, the Vista Ridge Winterguard brings “Ladies and Gentlemen, Start Your Engines” to the floor at Texas Color Guard Circuit Championships, held this year at the Jowers Gym, Texas State University.  As of today their performance time is 9:40 am.

The Winterguard has had a fun and rewarding season.  Competing in AAA Class, the Guard was awarded a 1st Place trophy and a 2nd Place trophy at the team’s last two contests.  Congratulations, Members, on your hard work and your great performances being recognized by the judging panels!

The Vista Ridge Winterguard performed “Ladies and Gentlemen, Start Your Engines” at their first contest of the season this past Saturday, 23 January. There’s still plenty to fill in, but it was a great “Start”!

The Vista Ridge Band Boosters hosted this contest here at our high school. A massive thank you goes out to all the Boosters and Band Members that volunteered their time to make this show run so smoothly. It proved to be a fantastic fundraiser. Hopefully we get to host a winterguard show again next year!
